The Rabbit hole
It seems that committing to a novel is some sort of all-consuming rabbit hole. Every turn leads to another task, another list, another commitment.
My past week went like this:
Oh, I think I’ll be ready to publish in June or July, so I should get started on some marketing content to build interest. A hook you say, to encourage email list sign-ups? Yes, I have just the thing. Let me just edit (ahem, rewrite) this prequel novelette! Perfect. Can I post it and get started? Of course not! I need to add the preorder information for the novel. Let me jump over there and see what that entails …
Oh wait … I changed a few things in the prequel. Let me make sure to note those for consistency in the novel. Yep, that’s done, but you know I read that having a book or something available for free to let people get acquainted with my writing style is important. You know what … I should write this whole other novella before I set up preorders.
Marketing ... out the window. Too soon. All the ideas I have will probably make zero sense once I get the rest of this done. Book cover—excuse me, covers— are drafted and done, but then again, the main one was done before and I hated it after a month.
If you need me, I’ll be over here … running around in circles.
